Reasonably entertaining, but the consensus is that Part 2 does a much better job at ratcheting up the shenanigans.
King Kong, a clever thief who steals a cache of diamonds from some gangsters, frames another thief called White Glove for the crime. That's when the bald detective Albert Au, who has been chasing King Kong for quite some time, pairs with the volatile female Superintendent Ho to bring him to justice. King Kong ends up joining the good guys to defeat White Glove and another bad guy dubbed Mad Max, and recover the diamonds from the hiding place where they were left by King Kong's dead accomplice.

The largest success that the company had was the series of the Aces Go Places films that began in 1982 and continued with four sequels until 1989. The films were extremely popular (and still are today) and the three main actors – Samuel Hui, Karl Maka and Sylvia Chang - were to appear in all of them (with the exception of Sylvia in the fifth film). The list of directors for these five films is fairly impressive – Eric Tsang directed the first two, Tsui Hark the third, Ringo Lam the fourth and Lar Kar-leung the fifth.

The first of the smash hit action/comedy series that was one of the first big successes of the Cinema City studio that dominated 80s Hong Kong. Pioneering cantopop star Sam Hui plays a master jewel thief who helps a bumbling detective catch an English crook.
